Celebrating Our Veterans at Beacon Hill

Once a year our nation honors all of our veterans and their families, making sure to let them know that we do not take for granted the service they have provided for our country and the many sacrifices they have made to keep our nation prosperous, safe and free. Beacon Hill is proud to be a community veterans call home and we are happy to share more about Veterans Day events happening in the area, so that you and your friends and family can join in honoring our veterans.

Beacon Hill Celebrates Our Veterans

Beacon Hill has built a senior retirement community in Lombard, Illinois, that welcomes people from all walks of life with open arms. That sense of community extends from our residents to our team members, who are all committed to creating a warm and welcoming place for residents to call home. Veterans Day presents us all with an opportunity to make sure we recognize the veterans in our community and never take for granted the sacrifices they have made.

One of our veteran residents, David Baruch, even had the opportunity to share his experiences beyond our community when Chicago’s WGN-TV interviewed him about his incredible World War II survival story as part of their Independence Day news coverage back in 2019.

We are so grateful that David and other veterans have come to call Beacon Hill their home and appreciate the opportunity to get to know them all and hear their stories.

Veterans Day Events Around Lombard, IL

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there are currently no large Veterans Day celebrations happening within the Beacon Hill retirement community this year. However, there are still some celebrations for veterans happening within the surrounding area for residents to attend.

The most notable event will be the Veterans Day Parade happening in the Village of Hillside. Hosted by the Broadview/Hillside American Legion Post #626, this parade will commence at 1 p.m. The parade will proceed from the St. Domitilla Church parking lot and down south on Hillside Ave to Butterfield Road, East on Butterfield Rd to Wolf Rd. North on Wolf Rd. to Washington Street and west on Washington Street past the Hillside Veteran Memorial. All area residents are welcome and encouraged to come and salute our veterans for their service.

After the parade has concluded, you can visit the Village of Lombard Veterans Memorial to pay your respects. Installed in 1983 by the Lombard American Legion Post 391, this memorial contains the names of hundreds of veterans who served during World War II and in Vietnam, along with their position and branch in the military. The memorial is located at 255 E Wilson Ave, Lombard, IL 60148, and is open to the public for visitation.
